Golf Day 2017

Welcome

I have always loved golf, never been particularly brilliant at it but I can swing a stick. Having Freddie obviously put a bit of a dent in the amount of time I spent on the course but I was looking forward to being able to take him down the range and eventually on the golf course itself.

My diagnosis has had a number of impacts on my favourite hobby some positive, such as playing regularly with my Dad, travelling abroad to play in Portugal and Spain and playing on a couple of Ryder Cup courses. On the negative side, just when I was starting to get somewhere (18 Handicap and finally broke 90) cramps in my hands, general tiredness around 18 holes and I’m unable to lift the club above shoulder height so I can only hit it 120 yards at a time.

Worst of all is that sinking feeling of knowing i’ll never be able to teach Freddie how to play or play a round of golf with him. I’ve left strict instructions for others to make that their role in his future life.

Anyway, one of my bucket list ideas was to run a golf day, and here we are. Whether you are into golf or not please take a moment to have a read through and show your appreciation to all the sponsors and people / companies that have donated auction and raffle prizes.

I’d love to make this an annual thing that continues long after I’m gone.  We are raising money for both the main MND Association and the local Gloucestershire branch who directly help and support those affected by MND here in Gloucestershire. Perhaps you’d like to be involved in the next one, if so please get in touch.

Main Sponsors

Supporting Motor Neurone Disease Association

Money raised from the event will be donated to both the main MND Association but also locally to the local Gloucestershire MND Branch which helps support over 60 people in Gloucestershire who are living with MND.

Competition Format

While I have no doubt winning will be uppermost in ‘every’ teams mind, the focus of this competition is fun and raising awareness and money for MND. With that in mind the format of the competition will be simple and we’ll throw in a few fun elements too.

  • Stableford Scoring
  • Best 3 scores on each hole to count in team competition
  • All 4 scores count on the Par 3’s

Added Extras

  • 2 x longest Drive on the 8 & 15 Holes
  • 2 x Nearest the pin on the 3 & 17 Holes
  • Two’s competition – £2.00 entry – win a share of the entry fund for every (gross) 2 you shoot.
  • Mulligan’s – £2.50 each and 4 max per team
  • There will be a putting competition in the evening
